HOW TO HANG PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS LIKE A PRO

When it comes to hanging framed prints there's an easy way, and a not so easy/awkward/hard way. With that said, this week I'm sharing a few tips on hanging art like a pro to not only make the process easier for you, but more importantly, to ensure your final investment sits harmoniously in your space.

CUSTOM FRAME IT
The first tip in this guide is actually my number one recommendation, and that is to have your print/s professionally framed. I have to admit that I've got a couple Kmart frames kicking about, but, I also have some that have been custom made and the difference in quality and presence are worlds apart. Another reason I recommend custom framing is to protect your investment - with options to use UV filtering glass and acid free matte boards just a couple of options to keep those prints safe. Obviously if you're on a tight budget, however, then frames from The Warehouse and Kmart will look perfect, I just think custom framing elevates the work and turns it into a real statement.

MAKE A TEMPLATE TO ENVISION IT IN PLACE
The second tip to hanging prints like a pro is to make paper templates. Simply grab some craft paper to trace around your finished piece then blu-tack them to the wall. Templates are perfect if you're hanging 2 or 3, or even a montage of different art as it enables you to properly visualise what they'll look like on the wall. Another tip regarding gallery style layouts is to compile all of the art work on the floor to visualise the perfect layout.

GET THE HEIGHT RIGHT
The third tip is to make sure you hang your prints at the right height. The general rule of thumb is to hang them at 'eye-level,' but, differing heights in the household might make this rule a bit awkward for some. In saying that, I think the best idea is to hang it like the experts (or pros I should say). Galleries and museums generally hang their art at around 58 inches (a metre and a half for those from my side of the world) from the floor as it’s the average human eye-height - so you can be rest assured that this exact measurement works.

BREAK (SOME) RULES
The last tip is to go with your instinct and do what feels natural to you! At the end of the day it's your home and every decision is subjective to you and your families own style and way of living, so embrace your quirks and have some some with it!
